Living a Healthy Life
How does being healthy help us prepare?
When we are healthy both spiritually and physically,
we are PREPARED to ENDURE and to STAY the course.
When we have not been exercising in God's word we
are not able to endure the enemies attacks because
we are weak and easily tire and give in. The same
goes for when we are not healthy, we easily give in
to quick fixes and find that we are severely lacking
energy. Doing God's work requires that we are alert
and well, that we are able and ready to handle
anything He sends our way. It requires that we are
well rested so that we can think straight and manage our emotions appropriately. It requires that we can focus on the task at hand, not worry about ailments or our failing health. Being healthy helps our mental and emotional well being immensely, and I will tell you what, feeling good and being happy makes emulating God's love so much easier!
Hebrews 12:1- Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:12 Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees,13 and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed.
So what does our health habits say about God? What image do we portray by how well we take care of our bodies? Do we represent gluttony, depression, laziness, lack of self control and addiction or do others see the fruits of moderation, self control, ambition, perseverence, joy and wholeness in Christ?
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
1 Corinthians 10:31- So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
Sometimes we need to examine why it is we are doing what we are doing. For me, eating was a way to escape, to deal with my issues without going to God first. In the end it brought me shame and a cycle that repeated itself, fueled by the enemies tactics to keep me in bondage. Did my eating give God glory? Absolutely not. It gave my fleshly desires all the control. God desires us to be free in him, not to be controlled by sin and our flesh. When we take control of our bodies, we are telling our flesh no, that it is God that rules us and sustains us when we are tempted.
So what if we have an illness that affects our health? What can we do?
Proverbs 3:7-8 Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.
Proverbs 4:20-22 My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh.
Psalm 103:2-4 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
James 5:15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
James 5:14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
James 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
Now there will always be situations that God will allow in His sovereign plan and not everything is because we have failed or lacked in an area. Sometimes when we have illness it is because God wants us to lean on Him and to praise him in our afflictions...
2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
But before you do anything maybe consider the verses mentioned above. God can heal anything! No illness is too big for Him. I have seen countless times in the Bible and in the world around me, that when people pray or belive in complete faith for their healing, there are miracles that happen! So whether we take control of our health or we allow God to take care of us, it is all done in faith, because He is the one who makes us able, it is He who strengthens us, it is He who carries us through. So praise God for His power and honor him with your body!

A woman’s spiritual struggles can have a profound impact on her health. It is through our bodies that we are tempted. It is also through our bodies that we serve God. Does God care about our physical struggles? This six-week interactive study examines the stories of biblical women to reveal that God cares deeply about our bodies and our health. Each week’s lesson will combine a Bible story (such as Esther, Hannah or the woman with the issue of blood) with a health issue (such as stress, hormones or depression) to lead women to greater spiritual and physical health. This study emphasizes that what we eat and drink, how much sleep we get and how we respond to stress affects our service to God. Each week includes studies for five days. This study is not intended to diagnose or treat any health condition the reader may have. Rather, its purpose is to motivate the believer to realize how much God cares about our physical condition and its relation to our spiritual lives.
